Online - New Mentor Teacher Training. The primary goal of quality mentoring for the Entry Years Enhancement (EYE) program is to support beginning teachers in the development of their skills and expertise so that they can become successful practitioners of effective instruction as required in the Utah Effective Teaching Standards.  This six-hour online course covers the USBE Competencies of a Quality Eye Mentor.

HYBRID -- Praxis II Principles of Learning and Teaching. This class will review the content of the Praxis II Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT) test to help Level I teachers prepare to pass the test and complete the USBE EYE requirement for a Level 2 license. This is a HYBRID course consisting of 6 hours of online work and 2 hours of face-to-face class instruction.

What to Teach and How to Teach it. Developing and teaching your content area by planning and organizing your instruction
Recommended Grade Level: K-12 Recommended Time: 1-2 Hours

Establishing and Maintaining the Mentor/Provisional Teacher Relationship. Facilitating a working and trusting relationship between the mentor and provisional teacher to meet the needs of the new teacher.
Recommended Grade Level: K-12 Recommended Time: 1-2 Hours

Adult Learning and Communication: Skills, Observation and Feedback. Understanding and appreciating differences in adult-learning styles and ways to provide constructive feedback.
Recommended Grade Level: K-12 Recommended Time: 1-2 Hours

Utah’s EYE Program for New Teachers: PRAXIS Tests and Portfolio Information. Grasping the specifics of USBE’s Entry Years Enhancement (EYE) components for induction:  Mentoring, Praxis, Evaluations, Portfolio.
Recommended Grade Level: K-12 Recommended Time: 1 Hour

Lifelong Growth and Learning. Exploring mindsets and mind-frames and effective teaching standards.
Recommended Grade Level: K-12 Recommended Time: 1-2 Hours

Developing A Repertoire of Mentor Tools. Comprehending and practicing mentoring language, effective questioning and quality conversations.  Applying the three roles of mentoring: Consulting, Collaborating, and Coaching.
Recommended Grade Level: K-12 Recommended Time: 1-2 Hours

Reflective Practice. Developing reflective practice as a vehicle for collaboration and professional growth.
Recommended Grade Level: K-12 Recommended Time: 1-2 Hours

Instructional Strategies. Targeting classroom strategies that impact student learning.
Recommended Grade Level: K-12 Recommended Time: 1-2 Hours

Mentor Training. This class is required to certify as a mentor and receive mentor stipend pay. It contains elements of the classes listed above.

Pass the Praxis. This class reviews pertinent information in regard to the Praxis test needed to obtain a Level 2 teaching license.
