Voices of Independence: Exploring 250 Years Through Books" is a year-long professional development series designed to deepen educators’ content knowledge and instructional practices around the Revolutionary era. Participants will engage in monthly book discussions, examining historical events, diverse perspectives, and the lasting impact of the Declaration of Independence. Emphasis will be placed on integrating primary sources, critical thinking, and high-leverage teaching strategies into classroom instruction. Educators will develop lesson ideas and resources aligned with curriculum standards, supporting meaningful student engagement with American history. They will be reading these books through the course of the year: 1776 How the Word is Passed Rebellion 1776 American Education: The Colonial Experience, 1607-1783 Ladies of Liberty Founding Mothers: Remembering the Ladies The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing Those Rebels, John and Tom John, Paul, George & Ben The Cause Love Your Enemies.
